The Many Faces of Nosferatu

Hello Bloggers! This is my first official post as one of the "Everyone Dies at the End" team. I have been pretty busy but I wanted to show some of the work I did at the Pancakes and Booze art show for my live art piece. I chose the classic vampire Nosferatu as seen for the first time in the classic 1922 silent film. (see link below)

This classic take on the legendary creature of the night has been the point of reference for many a vampire film over the decades. The most notable of which is the 2000 film "Shadow of the Vampire" starring Willem Defoe and John Malkovich. The movie is about the fictional filming of the 1922 Nosferatu film in which John Malkovich plays a frustrated director who employs Max Scheck (Willem Defoe), a method actor who is not what he seems.

The most recent iteration of the Nosferatu vampire is in the upcoming film "What we do in the Shadows" a mock-umentary film about about four vampire flat mates dealing with the struggles of modern day living.

Nosfertau has become in itself it's own class of vampire. The bald head, pointy ears, and pale skeletal frame make no attempt to hide the monster it is. The bat-like quality to its overall appearance is frightening and unsettling and yet it has sewn itself into the fabric of our pop culture so much so that a creature such as this can appear on a children's cartoon, Spongebob Squarepants, and no one bats an eye. It is so ingrained in our brains that the mere mention of the name brings a strong visual to our minds. It's for this reason and many more I have chosen it for the basis of my quick current piece of artwork. I hope you enjoy my work an maybe learned something along the way. Stay tuned for more.
